Honor Oak Crematorium
Brockley Way, London SE4 2LJ
Honor Oak Crematorium is set in memorial gardens within Camberwell New Cemetery, close to Honor Oak, Nunhead and Peckham. The building is Italianate, designed by Aston Webb in 1939 and is noted for its beautiful stained glass window. The chimney resembles the tower at St Mark's Campanile in Venice. The crematoria around South East London mostly and unusually have descending catafalques, and Honor Oak is no exception.
The entire crematorium was sympathetically refurbished in 2018 to a very high standard.
The Chapel
The chapel has seating for 70 people in total including the pews in the gallery space upstairs. There is additional free-standing seating available at the front of the chapel, and standing room in the entrance if a large crowd is expected.
Service times can be booked between 11am and 3pm for 60 minutes (including the time it takes for everyone to enter and leave the chapel so around 45 minutes for the service). Double service times are available for an additional fee. Early morning service times are available for a reduced fee. Weekend services are available by special request.
The coffin is placed onto the catafalque, which can descend, if requested.
Music is available through the Obitus system. The screens in the chapel can be used to display photos and videos, through the Obitus system. A webcam is available to livestream or record the funeral service, also through Obitus.
You can witness the start of the cremation, but this must be booked in advance.
