The Chapels

The crematorium has two chapels, both are next to the large car park and signposted throughout the grounds. You can have 45 minutes for a service (meaning 30 minutes in the chapel and 15 minutes for everyone to enter and leave) or book additional time (double service time).

The West Chapel

The West Chapel has a traditional design, seats about 80 people on wooden pews. It has a catafalque that descends upon committal.

The East Chapel

The East Chapel is more contemporary in design and will seat about 130 in linked padded seats. The seating arrangement can will change as required. There is a choice of two curtains. These can close to either fully or partially obscure the coffin at the point of committal. The curtains can also be left open.

Opening Times

Office: Monday to Friday: 9am to 4:30pm
Grounds: April to September: 9am to 7pm and October to March: 9am to 5pm

How to get to the crematorium

CAR

Access is via Thornton Road (A23) or Mitcham Road (A236). Both entrances lead to the large crematorium car park and office. If you are using satellite navigation use postcode:

  • CR0 3AA for the Mitcham Road entrance

  • CR7 6BB for the Thornton Road entrance.

These post codes are for the buildings next to the entrances.

Bus / tram / rail

The nearest rail station is East Croydon. Take the tram to the Therapia Lane stop. The cemetery is about 500m north of the tram stop.

Remember

You don’t have to go to your nearest crematorium. There are many crematoria in London so choose one which fits your needs. You might want to make an appointment to visit the crematorium in advance to see the chapel and the gardens.
